‘Net Zero’: Time to get serious

Here’s a basic fact about Australia in 2025:

Our entire energy system is underpinned by a commitment to pursue ‘net zero’ carbon emissions by 2050 no matter the cost.

Written out like that it doesn’t sound like much.

But it is the fundamental reason your power prices keep going up while the energy grid gets worse.

Energy debates are complicated and technical. It’s easy for your eyes to glaze over. Net Zero means very little to most Aussies getting on with their lives.

But while you might not be interested in Net Zero, Net Zero is interested in you.

Both major parties – Labor and Liberal – committed to Net Zero policy after the Paris Climate Conference in 2015.

While the Coalition and Labor made different shorter term commitments, the end result is the same:

A deliberate decision to weaken our economy and drive prices up in the pursuit of less reliable, more expensive energy, while driving reliable energy out of business.

It’s a self-inflicted parasite that eats away at our prosperity every single day.

When you hear about coal power plants shutting down because they’re not viable, they’re not viable because of government policy, not market demand.

When environmental activists (often with business interests in renewables) say renewable energy is cheaper, it’s because the government massively subsidises them to the tune of billions of dollars – and then they’re still not even cheap!

The technology that Net Zero advocates promise will help us reach Net Zero doesn’t even exist yet, and it’ll take billions more of taxpayer money to try to build it.

Net Zero puts at risk Australia’s prosperity, all while making no difference to the environment.

But it has led to blackouts and brownouts because there’s not enough base energy in the system.

It has led to billions of dollars sent offshore to foreign corporations to build wind and solar products.

It has led to it becoming too expensive for pensioners to turn the heater on in winter and the air con on in summer.

And in fact, with the dollars and destruction of renewable energy projects, it makes our natural environment worse and puts Aussie farmers out of business.

Labor’s policy is to continue to go down this path, no matter the cost.

They’re going to keep destroying farms and coastline to build wind and solar farms.

They’re going to keep shutting down reliable energy from coal plants.

They’re going to keep telling you they’re making energy cheaper while your bills keep going up.

We all want to see our nation’s natural beauty conserved. We want clean air and rivers and bushland.

But Net Zero does none of that.

Our government is sabotaging our prosperity for nothing.

They are making your bills more expensive for an ideological crusade, driven by activists who will benefit.

It’s time to get serious and change the conversation around energy.

Australia’s future prosperity is at stake.
