They are lying to you
Do these people ever listen to themselves?
Do the Net Zero zealots ever read what they say and understand how stupid it makes them look?
The answer must surely be no if the latest tirade from a UN climate bureaucrat is anything to go by.
In case you missed it, some suited-up UN pencil-pusher has come to Australia to lecture us on how we’re not doing enough to fix the climate.
Simon Stiell, the UN Climate Change Executive Secretary, addressed the Smart Energy Council and will meet with Energy Minister Chris Bowen later this week.
Australia will let the world “overheat” and fruit will be a “once-a-year treat” if Labor does not lift its clean-energy ambitions.
Is he serious?
Australia is responsible for 1.1 per cent of the world’s carbon emissions and it’s us who will let the world overheat?
This is absurd.
Does he … does anyone … actually believe that Australia’s actions on climate change will make even the slightest difference to the global climate?
How many bushfires will be stopped if we build windfarms, Mr Stiell?
How much less damage will the next flood do if we reduce emissions by another 10 per cent?
No one ever answers questions like this because they know they have no answer.
Even if you believe fully in human induced climate change, you know what Mr Stiell is saying is untrue.
He knows you know it too.
But Mr Stiell comes to Australia to deliver speeches like this because he knows our progressive governing class love to hear about it.
Because this is just flattering fodder for soft-headed magical thinking inner-city progressives like Labor, the Greens and the Teals who desperately want to believe Australia is uniquely evil and responsible for the world’s temperature.
They’re a much safer audience than what he’d get in India or China.
And he knows Albanese has to kiss the ring if he wants Australia to get the rights to host the big COP31 conference, where hundreds of millions of your taxpayer dollars will be spent on flying over even more scolding climate bureaucrats.
This is the reality: The UN is demanding we make ourselves poorer while the actual big emitters do nothing.
It uses dramatic language because it flatters the sensibilities of our elite activists and it makes headlines.
But it’s all fake.
Nothing our government does will change the climate.
Especially when coal power plants keep getting built in China and India every week.
But to address that might mean taking on some real political risk and responsibility.
And that’s just not the UN’s style.
