Jet-setting around the world to save it
It’s nice work if you can get it.
A trip across the other side of the world at $20k a head, just to chat about saving the world.
Best of all: you don’t have to pay for it!
Well, you, the average Aussie do, but bureaucrats and politicians aren’t worried about that.
Because while you’re copping higher power bills and an unreliable energy grid, the minister responsible plus an army of hangers-on and public servants spent $1.5 million of taxpayer money to go to last year’s UN Climate Conference in Azerbaijan.
The Australian reported the staggering expense and high hypocrisy of Bowen and his cadre of bureaucrats, revealing 75 people went over to Baku, Azerbaijan in November last year.
This included 42 officials from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water; 25 from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; two each from CSIRO, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, and the Department of Finance; and one from the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority, and another from the Department of Health and Aged Care.
Reaching Net Zero is apparently very important to ermine-faced Energy Minister Chris Bowen, but not so important he is above letting off some carbon emissions of his own jet-setting around the world to save it.
The volume and frequency of these climate conferences let off so much hot air, they’re probably responsible for half a degree of global warming on their own.
Despite the existence of “email” and “video calls”, it is apparently critical for the future of the planet that every year thousands of moral busybodies get together in person in an exotic location to talk about how to make you poorer.
This year, the destination is Brazil. So they’ll be discussing how to tax your ute and build windfarms off Bondi before Caipirinhas by the pool.
Oh and by the way, in 2026 you’ll get relief from sending Bowen and his caravan of functionaries overseas because he’s bidding for Australia to host it next year.
Which means instead you’ll be paying millions to host the thousands of other climate scolds with cushy jobs from around the world to shut down more of the industry that built our prosperity while China builds two new coal power stations a week.
Do not let these climate obsessed progressives lecture you on saving the planet when they behave like this.
These billionaires and busybodies are not trying to save the planet, they’re all about dollars and destruction.
It’s always been this way, and this outrageous taxpayer waste on climate junkets shows you why.
