Catholic schools ‘embed’ Aboriginal spirituality without parental permission
One reason ADVANCE is pushing back against Welcomes to Country is that when you leave the activists to their own devices, there’s nothing they won’t infect.
Recently, ADVANCE heard from one of our hundreds of thousands of supporters about an incident at his daughter’s school.
It’s a Catholic school, and recently his daughter was forced to take part in an Aboriginal smoking ceremony.
When John* found out, he raised it with the school principal and in response the principal handed him a booklet about how Aboriginal spirituality is strongly linked with the Catholic faith.
John is a Christian and he enrolled his daughter at a Catholic school because he wanted his faith and values to be part of her education.
But it turns out, it is built into the education guidelines to “embed” Aboriginal spirituality into the curriculum.
The NSW Catholic Schools guidelines go much further than simple history lessons. They compare the stolen generations to the Exodus story and compare alcohol and drug abuse to Noah’s flood.
They talk about the importance of the land and community to Aboriginal people, as if these aren’t also important to every Australian.
There’s nothing wrong with teaching kids about history and Indigenous culture and practices in the right context and with the knowledge of parents.
But when parents ask questions, educators should have enough transparency and integrity to engage in good faith and defend their decision to enable activist narratives.
No one said yes to this blending of spirituality with the Christian faith, which forces kids to say sorry for past wrongs and feel guilty for living on “stolen land”.
And the activists pushing this know it’s wrong.
When ADVANCE put out our recent Welcome to Country ad, several organisations sent out their lawyers straight away to stop it.
Why?
Because they know they’re teaching kids this stuff without parental consent.
And they don’t want the truth exposed.
These educators and activists think they know better than you. They won’t tell you when they start indoctrinating your kids. But the moment you object, they hide behind their guidelines and threaten legal action.
That’s why ADVANCE is building this campaign, to help John and his daughter, and parents around the country who don’t want their kids left alone to the activists.
