Chris Bowen and fake Net Zero
In The Australian, Energy Minister Chris Bowen has come out and praised China and India for their renewable energy rollout.
And without realising it, Bowen has exposed why Net Zero is fake.
He writes:
“China and India come in for particular criticism from those arguing Australia should do less. I’m not here to defend either country ... But let’s look at what they are doing now ... Their uptake of renewables is astounding”
He continues:
“Why? Because (renewables) are now the rational, most cost-effective choice. They outcompete coal on every metric when it comes to powering homes and businesses.”
If they’re so competitive, why is India set to build new coal plants that will result in their highest increase in coal power generation in six years?
And why has China, according to The Australian, “experienced its biggest boom in the building of coal plants in a decade?”
India and China are big countries with big populations. Any investment in anything is going to show up as a big number on a graph.
Which is why, when you look under the hood, Bowen is essentially admitting this is all fake.
He’s hiding behind percentages and stats, when really, on his own terms, what matters is carbon dioxide emissions.
If they keep going up, it doesn’t matter what proportion of this energy source is versus that energy source.
It matters that China and India’s carbon emissions are going up.
And they are going up.
And that means nothing Australia is doing makes a difference to climate change.
When confronted with that reality Bowen and others retreat to talking about “doing our fair share” and that we can’t be “left behind” in the energy transition.
But the climate is not an accountant apportioning natural disasters to each country based on their “fair share”.
No one is being “left behind” in a renewable market that’s heavily subsidised and when most countries aren’t going to meet their emissions targets anyway.
There’s no ledger on a stone tablet that records Australia’s carbon emissions reductions and sends a percentage fewer bushfires our way in return.
It’s all fake!
If – again, by Bowen’s own reasoning – human generated global carbon emissions are what is warming the planet, all that matters is the total emissions.
And they are going up.
So we are making ourselves poorer and our energy less reliable for nothing.
Let’s also notice, by the way, Bowen is happy to praise India and China while they’re building both renewables and coal plants. So why is it okay for them to build both and not us?
Why can’t we shore up our own energy grid with our abundant coal resources while continuing to build renewable energy?
Or, indeed, why can’t we stop being silly about gas and grow that capacity? We don’t even have to talk about nuclear to fix our grid.
We can just replicate China and India’s “astounding” building of new coal plants in conjunction with renewables and we’re all set.
But that won’t happen.
Because Bowen cares about scoring political points and maintaining the fakeness of Net Zero for ideology along with dollars and destruction.
And we’re all literally paying the price.
