The Greens ‘free education’ policy is just a stunt

The Greens’ “free public schools policy” is nothing more than a stunt.

They say it’s about “free education”, but in reality, it’s a direct attack on private and independent education that undermines parental choice.

But the Greens don’t care. They won’t be paying for it.

In reality, there is no such thing as “free education”. Someone has to pay. In this case, it’s the taxpayer.

Currently, public schools request voluntary contributions, about $250 per year for primary students and $600 for high school students, to cover extracurricular activities, excursions, and materials. Abolishing these fees doesn’t remove costs.

Worse, it makes schools even more dependent on bloated, inefficient government funding.

Who pays for this socialist spending spree? Taxpayers, businesses, and working families who are already struggling with high interest rates, increasing bills, and more taxes.

Yes, to fund it, the Greens want higher taxes. That means fewer jobs, lower productivity, and capital fleeing overseas. When businesses are taxed more, they cut jobs, relocate, or pass costs onto consumers. Every Australian suffers.

Then there’s their war on private and independent schools. The Greens plan to cut funding for independent schools, an overt attempt to dismantle a respected system that gives parents the right to choose their child’s education.

Here’s the truth. Most independent schools cater to middle- and low-income families, parents who make sacrifices for their kids' education.

Australians deserve better than more Green ideological experiments that punish success and promote dependency.

We deserve better than the Greens: they’re not who they used to be.
