This is why Dreyfus must be dropped
It’s hard to believe it’s true. But the evidence is there in black and white. The Attorney General Mark Dreyfus personally approved a plan to send taxpayer-funded lawyers into the High Court to argue for the release of an immigration detainee who had raped a 10-year-old boy.
But the evidence is there in black and white.
The Attorney General Mark Dreyfus personally approved a plan to send taxpayer-funded lawyers into the High Court to argue for the release of an immigration detainee who had raped a 10-year-old boy.
Known as NZYQ in the courts to protect his identity, this paedophile arrived in Australia illegally by boat in 2012 and showed no remorse after his 2015 conviction, according to court documents.
And according to the judge who sentenced him: “The offender had a lack of insight into his actions, normalising them as culturally acceptable to excuse his offending behaviour.”
Dreyfus must have known all this when he signed off on a request from the Australian Human Rights Commission to use taxpayer funds to pay lawyers arguing for his release.
How could Australia’s first law officer, the man elected to fight to keep us safe, think this was okay?
But what’s even worse, Dreyfus must have also known that if NZYQ won his case in the High Court, it would mean almost 150 serious criminals would also be released from detention.
That includes paedophiles and violent sex offenders.
And here’s the thing. NZYQ did win his case, thanks in part to taxpayer funded lawyers for the Australian Humans Rights Commission.
NZYQ walked out of immigration detention a free man, along with almost 150 other hardened criminals.
Australians have lost count of how many criminals who should be behind bars or sent back to where they came from have been charged with further offences.
Included in the Dreyfus detention debacle roll call are:
- Convicted sex offender Aliyawar Yawari – who has a history of targeting elderly women in violent attacks – has been charged with allegedly indecently assaulting a woman.
- Paedophile Emran Dad was arrested for allegedly sending “sexually charged” messages to a 15-year-old child.
- Mohammed Ali Nadari has been accused of drug possession.
- Abdelmoez Mohamed Elawad faces accusations of stealing luggage.
So why should Dreyfus resign?
The refugee advocates have been arguing in the courts for years against the kind of detention that kept these illegal immigrants off our streets.
The Australian Human Rights Commission had even begged previous governments to help – a request that had been turned down by former Attorneys-General Christian Porter and Michaelia Cash.
But it was Mark Dreyfus who signed off and let them use your money to do it.
He approved the use of your taxes to argue for the release of an illegal who raped a 10-year-old boy.
That child rapist was released and now there is a High Court precedent that has meant 148 serious criminals walked free.
If Dreyfus was serious about your safety there’s no way he would’ve sent your taxes into the High Court to argue against you.
It’s wrong.
And it means Dreyfus has to go.
