Immigration policy should be: AUSTRALIA FIRST.
You already know Labor’s massive immigration explosion is putting pressure on housing, on the roads, and our hospitals.
Over a million extra people arriving between 2022 and 2024 will do that.
We’re told by all the experts it’s ok, don’t worry, it’s good for the economy.
But now it turns out billions of dollars aren’t being spent in our economy. Instead, they’re being sent overseas.
A new report from news.com.au reveals a record $38.2 billion has exited the country via remittances; that is, migrants sending money back home overseas.
That’s $38.2 billion earned in Australia and then gone offshore.
That includes $7.3 billion to India and $5.35 billion to China.
And the analysts reckon that’s going to go up this year.
Now, no one thinks every dollar earned in Australia needs to stay here.
That’s not how the economy works.
People helping their foreign families is understandable.
But when it’s happening at this scale, we have a problem.
And it undermines the popular pro-immigration argument that it’s a boon for the Aussie economy.
As, Adam Creighton, speaking to news.com.au said:
“... [this is] a reminder that the economic benefits of immigration are lower than they might seem because of the lower propensity of immigrants to spend their incomes in Australia, as native-born Australians typically would.”
We’re paying the price of skyrocketing immigration through housing shortages and clogged up public services – and we’re not getting the economic benefits in return.
That’s the reality.
When it comes to our immigration policy, Australia’s interests should come first.
And it’s clearly not in our interest for billions of dollars to disappear offshore.
And that’s why Albanese and Labor need to hit pause on mass immigration put the interests of Australians first again.
