REVEALED: half the country believe immigration is too high
The numbers don’t lie.
Half of the country thinks the immigration rate is too high.
And, in fact, only 32 per cent think it’s about right or too low.
But is the Labor government doing anything about it?
Of course not.
These are the latest numbers from a Resolve poll commissioned by The Sydney Morning Herald last week.
Australians are marking down the Albanese government for its handling of immigration amid a debate about how best to manage the country’s population growth, as one in every two voters polled says the permanent migration rate remains too high.
55 per cent of respondents also said they think the Albanese Labor government is handling immigration in an unplanned and unmanaged way.
It couldn’t be more clear.
Aussies want immigration brought under control.
Yet just weeks ago Albanese confirmed no change to the 185,000 cap on permanent migration – a misleading number that doesn’t account for the large numbers of students and other temporary residents who also compete for housing.
Instead, it’s mostly families of migrants coming in.
So much for the need for immigration to boost our workforce.
Australians can sniff a con job a mile away, so it’s no surprise they’re not happy with Labor’s management of the border.
All the facts and figures about the economy and growth are hiding the plain fact that our immigration program is not doing what it’s meant to: serve the interests of Australians.
It’s time for the government to wake up and do its job.
Listen to the voters.
Get immigration under control.
